WHAT IS THE ACADEMY

The Independence Academy is a guided, confidence-building membership where teens and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can learn practical life skills independently—while families have support along the way.

This IS:

  • Self-paced life-skills classes designed for students to complete on their own
  • A growing resource library with new classes, tools, and practical updates added over time
  • Live calls and Q&A sessions for extra guidance, encouragement, and real-world support
  • A private member community where students and families can learn alongside others on a similar path
  • One-on-one support calls available after a student completes each class
  • Updated resources and guidance when important rules, laws, or requirements change
  • Foundational skills that support greater confidence at home, in the community, and in everyday routines
The Independence Academy is an ongoing, guided membership that grows with your student—step by step, at their own pace.

This IS NOT:

  • ×
Not therapy, medical care, case management, legal advice, or an individualized education program
  • ×
Not a program that expects every student to move at the same pace
  • ×
Not a promise that independence happens overnight
  • ×
Not focused on housing plans or tiny-home decisions—this is where students build the foundational skills that make future choices more possible
  • ×
Not another collection of information students and families are expected to sort through alone
The Independence Academy is not a one-time course, a clinical program, or a shortcut to independence.

Small skills become real confidence. Real confidence creates more independence.

THE PATH

How It Works

The Academy makes it easy to start where your student is, build momentum, and keep moving forward without pressure to do everything at once.

1

Choose a class

Start with the life skill that feels most important right now—daily routines, communication, safety, self-care, money basics, household tasks, and more.

2

Learn at your own pace

Students work through clear, self-paced lessons built to be practical, encouraging, and easy to follow independently.

3

Practice in real life

Use the included tools, workbooks, and activities to turn each lesson into a skill your student can use at home and in the community.

4

Complete the class

Celebrate progress, track what is working, and identify the next skill to build.

5

Get 1-on-1 support

After completing each class, students can access a one-on-one call for encouragement, reflection, and guidance on what comes next.
